Dried Fruit
If cowboys had some luck, they’d find a fruit orchard, but chances are they’d just carry a fistful of dried fruit in their bags. The nearly-indestructible sweet treats and caloric bombs were very popular, actually, and were probably the tastiest food on the cowboy’s menu.
Apricots, peaches, and cherries were common, and they were often enjoyed along with roasted nuts. Almond and pecan plantations were widespread.
