Fortune Cookies
Those inedible but fun cookies that tell the future are not Chinese, or Asian for that matter. It seems the inventive treats came to be during the 20s and 30s in Chinese restaurants in New York City.
There’s no doubt Chinese people found the cookies to be an appropriate dessert for their menus, but they’re not at all based on their traditions, but in the American spirit and inventiveness.
By the end of WWII, the cookies were widespread and are now served everywhere in the world, except in China, of course. The real question here is, how are those cookies so effective at foreseeing the future?
